Mitigation Action Plans and Scenarios (MAPS)

Central to MAPS is the facilitated interaction between key stakeholders and in-country research teams under the steering or oversight of a multi-ministerial government team.

Established in 2011, the Maps Programme has been extended for a further two years during which time the country teams will refine the results of their processes, with some using this evidence base to inform their country’s national contributions to the UNFCCC process. Others will consider next steps to implementation. All will focus on long-term scenarios and the challenges this brings.

The Maps International team, which is based at SouthSouthNorth and the Energy Research Centre at the University of Cape Town, will continue working with the country teams facilitating collaboration and developing resources and research to capture best practices and experiences. Furthermore MAPS International is committed to the development of a MAPS’ legacy, which will include a technical library, capacity development material and a book.

MAPS has produced policy and technical briefs on modeling, mitigation actions, equity and development as well as a range of research papers.

MAPS is currently active in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
