Biochar in the Cape Flats: Project Findings
Biochar is gaining interest in the climate change scene for its potential benefits for increasing soil health, possible carbon sequestration, and improving plant yields. SouthSouthNorth and Abalimi Bezekhaya embarked on a collaborative research project to establish whether biochar could improve the productivity of food gardens in Kuyasa. Alongside this primary goal of testing the efficacy of biochar, the project also fostered food production and the co-creation of knowledge around establishing climate resilient food gardens in the Cape Flats.
