SSN has had a robust country programme in Ethiopia since 2012. Delivering its work through a proficient country team, SSN has established a niche in providing technical assistance in relation to climate finance and associated systems, the articulation of climate policies and commitments, and in developing bankable climate-compatible development project proposals from international climate funds, such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Adaptation Fund (AF). Key features of the country team in delivering its expertise include long-established trust (from both donors and government), responsiveness and flexibility, practical support, intermediation and understanding of the local political economy, and its skilful contribution to international teams. SSN has provided longstanding support on climate finance to the Ministry of Finance and the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Facility and has provided technical assistance support to various governmental entities, including the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Commission (EFCCC), and the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity (MOWIE).
SSN has also managed to mobilize dedicated in-country resources from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), formerly the Department for International Development (DFID), for the provision of GBP 1.5 million in technical assistance support on climate finance readiness, green industrialization and urbanization, and off-grid solar energy provision.
