The Just Energy Transition (JET) project is implemented by SouthSouthNorth (SSN) and funded by the Pool Fund for International Energy (PIE), an initiative of the European Climate Foundation (ECF). The project spans a duration of 16 months, starting in March 2022 and concluding in July 2023. This project aims to support African countries in developing a comprehensive understanding of appropriate financing mechanisms for a Just Energy Transition (JET) towards large-scale renewable energy markets and contribute to meeting the mitigation ambition of the Paris Agreement. The project seeks to define the contours of the JET and the form and quantum of finance required to support transition pathways, including renewable energy transitions. Additionally, the project aims to mobilise support for the establishment of JET financing frameworks (JETFFs) that can specifically address the funding needs associated with renewable energy transitions in Africa. By incorporating renewable energy transitions into the scope of the project, further focus is dedicated to identifying the financial resources and mechanisms necessary to support the transition from traditional energy sources to renewable alternatives within the JET framework. This broader approach acknowledges the importance of sustainable and clean energy solutions in achieving universal access to clean energy and aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promote a low-carbon future.
