SouthSouthNorth Launches New Five-Year Strategy to Tackle Intersecting Global Crises

SouthSouthNorth (SSN) is pleased to announce the launch of its new five-year strategy, setting a bold course for the organisation from 2025 to 2030. As SSN marks 25 years of work across the Global South, this strategy defines a sharper focus and united direction to respond to the interlinked crises of climate change, inequality, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation.

The strategy marks a significant evolution in how SSN approaches its mission. With a growing team and expanding global footprint, SSN aligns its diverse work under a common purpose and set of outcomes, ensuring that all programmes contribute to shared long-term impact.

“This strategy represents a step-change for SSN,” said the organisation’s Directors. “It distils years of learning into a cohesive framework that will help us work more effectively across our programmes, strengthen our internal systems, and stay grounded in our vision of climate justice and sustainable development.”

The document lays out the organisation’s priorities, guided by a clear theory of change and shaped by years of collaboration, reflection, and adaptation. It emphasises the importance of remaining flexible and responsive in a world where the pace and scale of change continue to accelerate. Rather than a static plan, SSN’s strategy is a dynamic guide that supports ongoing learning, accountability, and partnership. It reflects a commitment to integrated action, grounded in equity, resilience, and environmental stewardship values. SSN looks forward to deepening its work with partners worldwide as it brings this strategy to life over the next five years and beyond.

Social Justice, Social Protection, and Just Transitions: An Inseparable Link

At its core, social justice is about dismantling systemic inequalities and ensuring equal opportunities for all. A just transition, which seeks to make climate action equitable and inclusive, is fundamentally a social justice issue. However, achieving a truly just transition requires strong social protection systems—the mechanisms that safeguard individuals and communities from economic shocks, job losses, and deepening poverty during periods of structural change. Without these protections, the transition to a low-carbon economy risks perpetuating existing injustices rather than correcting them. In short, decarbonisation and economic transformation must go hand in hand with policies that fight poverty, reduce inequality, and open up opportunities for all.
